CALIFORNIA CHINA PAINTERS ART ASSOCIATION

HONORED ARTIST 2014

ELIZABETH GRAUMAN

Liz doesn't consider herself as an artist. She was a Registered Nurse, dutiful wife and mother of four children before she picked up her first paint brush after the age of forty. It was an across-the-street neighbord, Adele Weatherbee, who fifty years ago introduced Liz to the art of china painting.

Determined not to let color blindness discourage her new found activity, she signed up for classes through the city of Anaheim. She spent countless hours tracing patterns onto plates, practicing brush strokes and experimenting with different techniques in the confines of her garage. She invited members of the China Painters Association to join her and the weekly "garage bunch" grew into a supportive group of friends, painting and socializing over the years.

With her family lovingly teased her about purple tree trunks, she'll admit she may not have the technical skills to consider herself as a true artist, but her love for the art comes through in many other ways. Liz has volunteered many years on the board, in various positions but her proudest moment came when she was show chair.

She possesses a dry sense of humor, a love for God and believes in the long lost art of letter writing. She has lived by the motto, "if you can dream it, you can achieve it". Being the "Artist of the Year" is beyond anything she could have possibly dreamed and is humbled by this honor.

Thank You!!
